Oslo Thursday, April 26th 2012 at noon
We are almost through a new week of the trial after the July, 22nd terror attacks.
Rain is pouring down. Around 40.000 people (children and adults) come together at Youngstorget (“Young’s Square”) to take a stand.
(The Youngstorget is the place where the Labour movement has their big demonstrations on May, 1st. Surrounding the square are the head offices of the Norwegian Labour Party, the Liberal Party and the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions.)
We come together to take a stand against the ideology behind and the action of the terrorist. We come together support and to show our sympathy to the victims of July 22nd and their families.
We come together to sing “Barn av regnbuen” (My Rainbow race) – a song the terrorist calls “Marxist brainwashing of Norwegian children.”
The Norwegian musician Lillebjørn Nilsen who wrote the Norwegian lyrics is leading the singing.
Around 25.000 of us walk from Youngstorget to the courthouse where the trial takes place to lay down roses. The red rose is the symbol for the Norwegian Labour Party who’s young members were attacked at Utøya last summer. Outside we stop and sing the song over and over…
“If one man can show so much hate imagine how much love we all can show together.”
The roses are back in the streets of Oslo…

CHORUS:
One blue sky above us,
One ocean lapping all our shores,
One Earth so green and round,
Who could ask for more?
And because I love you,
I’ll give it one more try.
To show my Rainbow Race It’s too soon to die.
Some folks want to be like an ostrich,
Bury their heads in the sand.
Some hope that plastic dreams
Can unclench all those greedy hands.
Some hope to take the easy way,
Poisons, bombs, they think we need ‘em.
Don’t you know you can’t kill all the unbelievers?
There’s no shortcut to freedom.
CHORUS
Go tell, go tell all—– the little children.
Tell all their mothers and fathers, too –
Now’s our last chance to learn to share
What’s been given to me and you.
CHORUS
